My sister and her family are out of town right now and I've been keeping their dog for them while they're gone. Last night Trouble and Gin alerted me to something out in the yard. When I opened the door to go out and investigate the dogs burst out and before I could catch up to them there was all this barking, snarling, and screams. I hit the flood lights on my rose garden where I maintain a 200gallon pond for my moors. Ginger had a huge raccoon by the neck and was shaking it for all she was worth and Trouble was doing his best to get a piece of it too. They may have caught the culprit but the damage has already been done. The coon tore open the predator net on my moors and pulled them all out. Their mutilated, half eaten bodies littered the rose beds.
Only Ginger was injured by the coon. She is up to date on her rabies but I took her to the vet this morning anyway. We gave her a booster, had her wounds cleaned up, and she was given an antibiotic injection to stem any infection. It was strange to see but when the raccoon was dead Trouble went and sat down by the pond. He looked around at the mess made and looked back up at me as if to "I'm sorry, we tried to save them". Ginger nosed the dead coon towards me like it was some kind of compensation offering. Like; "it took something from you but at least I killed it good and dead for you"
I know they don't care about my fish but they do seem to know that I care about them and you could really tell they were trying to comfort me. Dogs are just too awesome.
